Silver Dollar Aquarium Fish

Silver Dollars are one of the Metynnis Lippincottianus fish species. One of the more popular aquarium species available, they originate from the Amazon Basin and grow up to five inches long.

Silver Dollar fish have a strong, pressed oval shaped body. They are passive creatures, preferring to live peacefully with other fish. In addition, they like to live in a large tank and along with their own species. This fish tends to destroy plants, including the popular Vallisneria plants – you’ll no doubt find yourself replacing these plants every few days. Therefore, it is important that you feed this fish when it’s hungry. They will enjoy small amounts of lettuce, sprouts, spinach and some meat-based meals.

This placid species tend to enjoy moderate, soft water conditions, as well as slightly acidic water. They will breed, producing hundreds of eggs at once. These eggs usually hatch within just a few days, so be prepared for them.
